PearlDiver Technologies and Spine Arthoplasty Society to Provide SAS Member Access to Largest Patient Record Database

136 Million Patient Record Database, Charging Information and Code Access to PubMed Clinical Papers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (January 1, 2009) – PearlDiver Technologies Inc., an aggregator of medical information databases, announced today an agreement with the Spine Arthroplasty Society whereby PearlDiver will provide SAS Members with proprietary access to its multiple databases. PearlDiver’s aggregated database of HIPAA-compliant patient records is the largest searchable database of such records in the United States and, potentially, the world. This database includes:
  • All diagnostic and procedure codes (ICD-9, CPT and DRG) for 8 million orthopedic patients
  • 136 million total patient records
  • Information on age, gender and comorbidities
  • All charging information
  • Complication and adverse event information
  • Longitudinal patient tracking
  • All PubMed clinical papers made searchable by ICD-9 and CPT code or by key word

The PearlDiver surgeon interface and dashboard will be made available to SAS’ United States membership base – about 700 members.

PearlDiver is also developing a series of new tools for active researchers and spine surgeons which will be included in the SAS Membership package at they come online. These tools include:

  • PowerPoint templates with “hot” button access to PubMed clinical papers and PearlDiver patient record and insurance charging information
  • Medicare (CMS) data integrated with PearlDiver’s existing private insurance data
  • Detailed product and company data
  • Access to large integrated healthcare center databases (HIPAA compliant)
  • Detailed product adverse event or complication data

Benjamin Young, president of PearlDiver, said that one of the key elements of PearlDiver is the ability to integrate and partner with other information providers to the spine surgeon community. “By converting large databases from insurance companies, CMS, PubMed and large health centers into usable search tools for surgeons, we are uniquely qualified to serve the surgeon community,” Young said. “Surgical techniques and tools are evolving rapidly so it is vital for surgeons to receive relevant information in an easy to use and highly organized format.”
